This is the first volume of two-volume set from the Association of American Neurological Surgeons (AANS). This volume contains 10 chapters primarily focused on the biology of gliomas, their pathological characteristics and cellular changes in malignant progression. It is the first edition and is written by more than 20 authors from North America under Dr. Michael L. J. Apuzzo's leadership. This book has been written to provide the basic data for malignant transformation in human gliomas and their individual differences. This a very worthy effort by authors because of the importance of the subject. Although cerebral glioma is not an uncommon disease, our knowledge about these tumors is very limited, and even grading of these tumors is considered controversial by most neurosurgeons. The authors clearly provide the available data about these tumors in the book. The book has a large range of potential readers that includes neurosurgeons, neurologists, clinical oncologists, and neuroscientists. The authors are highly credible experts in their fields. The quality and amount of illustrations are satisfactory, but only a few color pictures have been used. The references are quite up-to-date and given at the end of each chapter. The book's format is standard AANS publication format, and this makes reading easy for an experienced reader. This is another book from AANS that sets the standards in neurosurgery. It is very useful book for up-to-date information about cerebral gliomas and their biological behaviors. I strongly recommend this book for almost anybody who has an interest in the area.
